A few short months ago, I had a FICO score in the 800s and was so happy to be taking my finances to a new financial institution. Living in San Diego at the time, I chose San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU). One of the biggest financial mistakes of my life.
The first problem that I had with SDCCU is that they run a hard credit pull when you open an account – or apply to open an account. I was told several times that there would only be one credit pull for all credit inquiries for the first 30 days – that they would not need to pull my credit again to qualify me for an auto loan, credit card, etc. This proved to be a LIE – as they again pulled my credit 7 days later when I applied for a credit card.
Pulling my credit twice in one week gave my credit score a big hit.
When I needed to get an auto loan, they made me go into a branch – TWICE. Lots and lots of waiting around unnecessarily. Totally pointless. EVERYTHING could and should have been done online.
My most recent pain points with San Diego County Credit Union have to do with them delaying access to MY CASH. I made a substantial CASH deposit at an out of state credit union which was listed on the SDCCU website as an ATM that took cash deposits. SDCCU put a CHECK hold on my CASH deposit and did not give me full access to my CASH for over 8 days after my deposit …. When I called them, their customer service person could not explain what was going on and promised to call me back – but never did … (which is par for the course for the non-responsive SDCCU).
The last problem that I have with SDCCU and last transaction I will ever have with San Diego County Credit Union is that I sold a vehicle last week which had a loan with SDCCU. It should have been paid off last week, but as of today is still showing a huge balance. SDCCU is obviously playing the float and trying to make money on my money …
I am done with SDCCU, cannot recommend anything about them and would NEVER vote for San Diego County Credit Union as a decent financial institution. Bye Bye SDCCU!
